The Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece expresses the deep sorrow of the Greek Jewry for the death of four innocent people following the lethal attack at the Jewish Museum of Brussels, victims of hatred, bigotry and anti-Semitism.

This deadly incident, along with the brutal beating and injuring of two young Jews in Paris, on their way to the Synagogue, are two tragic incidents which -in the light of the results of the EU elections- indicate a new, ugly reality.

Regretfully, these incidents -that occurred in the very heart of Europe- were no obstacle to the spectacular entrance of neonazi and far-right parties in the European Parliament, parties that incite to hatred against Jews, against minorities, against ‘different’ people and civilizations.

Merely 70 years after the end of World War II, Europe seems to have forgotten what Nazism means, and has never learned what the Holocaust really meant.

Today that we mourn for the innocent victims that lost their lives in a barbaric attack, the extreme right and neonazi forces have risen again threatening Greece and Europe. Starting tomorrow, all of us, we have to work together so that this does not happen again.

European Governments, European institutions and European democratic citizens need to put into action their determined message for zero tolerance to racial and religious hatred, zero tolerance to anti-Semitism.
We express our deepest sympathies to the families that have lost their beloved ones, May their souls rest in peace, and we wish a speedy recovery to the injured.
