ANTI-SEMITISM
ANTI-VACCINATION & ANTI-SEMITISM Print E-mail
Thursday, 21 October 2021 08:55
By Victor Isaak Eliezer*

The waves of the anti-vaccination advocates are not harmless. They base their arguments on conspiracy theories, prejudices and stereotypes, with absolutely no scientific justification. Vaccination is considered as a threat to the national and religious identity of the nation.

Flags and religious symbols are integral "tools" of the anti-vaccination campaign and the protests of the anti-vaccination supporters. The phenomenon is spreading rapidly in France, Germany, Italy and in Greece.

The use of violence is part of the planning of the demonstrations, in order to ensure their widest possible coverage in the media and on the internet. The far right, which has longed to seize every opportunity to promote fascist and Nazi ideals, does not hesitate to adopt the argumentation of the anti-vaccination supporters, in order to appear once again as the pre-eminent anti-systemic movement, even organizing “task forces” which aim to spread fear and panic.

KIS WELCOMES THE NEW EU STRATEGY FOR COMBATTING ANTISEMITISM Print E-mail
Wednesday, 06 October 2021 13:18

The Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece welcomes the groundbreaking action plan of the European Commission for combatting antisemitism and fostering Jewish life.

We congratulate Mr Margaritis Schinas, the Vice President of the European Commission for Promoting our European Way of Life, who played a key role in planning the new strategy to confront antisemitism in Europe.

The new strategy -as presented in the detailed and concise document released yesterday by the European Commission- is an innovative project that covers three basic stages -prevention, protection and education / research- the interaction of which we believe that will effectively combat the menace of antisemitism that revives in Europe. Within the context of his visit in our country, Mr. Schinas will visit the Jewish Museum of Thessaloniki and will be briefed by the President of the Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece, Mr. David Saltiel, on the progress of the project of the Holocaust Museum of Greece in Thessaloniki.

In our country, where antisemitism continues to manifest despite the noteworthy educational programs implemented in recent years in Greece, the project of the EU for 2021 – 2030, through the multitude of the opportunities and means it provides, will contribute to the realization of coordinated actions targeting antisemitism.

The Greek as well as the world Jewry is looking forward to taking active part in the implementation of this project, hoping that altogether we will succeed in uprooting antisemitic hatred from the contemporary society. A society free of antisemitism means brotherhood, it means respect of diversity and respect of the fundamental human rights.

Tuesday, 05 January 2021 12:19
On the night of the 28th to the 29th of December 2020, vandals sprayed a Christogram cross with the words “Jesus Christ Conquers” on the Holocaust monument of Drama and broke a part of the marble base of the Monument. Similar graffiti was also sprayed at the nearby tobacco warehouse of Drama where, on March 3, 1943, the Bulgarian occupying forces arrested and imprisoned the Jews of the city before deporting them to the Nazi extermination camps.

REACTIONS:

-The Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece (KIS) in its announcement of December 30, 2020, referred to its letter addressed to the Police Department of Drama, calling for the arrest of the perpetrators, as well as to its letter to the Municipality of Drama, asking for the restoration of the damages caused to the Monument, and the condemnation of the vandalism “which offends the city's history and culture”.

“The Greek Jewry with repulsion and sorrow strongly condemns the continuation of anti-Semitic attacks that derive from any kind of fanaticism and encourage intolerance.

We wish the New Year to be a year of peace and prosperity, in which such phenomena will permanently and irrevocably stop”, KIS’s announcement stresses.

-The immediate reaction of the Municipality of Drama for the restoration of the Monument – Drama Mayor’s letter to KIS:

KIS expressed to the Mayor of Drama, Mr. Christodoulos Mamsakos, the Board’s appreciation for the immediate response of the Municipality for the restoration of the damages and the deletion of the graffiti. In his reply letter to KIS Mayor Mamsakos stresses inter allia: “With sorrow and a regret for the damages caused both to the Holocaust Monument and the tobacco warehouse in our town, I inform you that the restoration works have already started and I send you attached the relevant photographic material.

I also convey the mortification of our local society, which in its entirety condemns the barbaric destructive acts committed by isolated and controversial individuals, who do not serve the sacred humanitarian values of culture, history and traditions. They ignore that our culture, our history and our memories are humanity's past and present. They are our heritage".

The mayor’s letter concludes with the statement of “the repulsion and the contempt” with which himself and the people of Drama condemn this vandal attack.

Tuesday, 03 November 2020 08:51
"A harsh Jew, manager of a smell-blood company, which assumed the clearance of the non-performing loans of the poor Greeks. The President of the Jewish Community who pretends to be our friend, is stealing our money from the back door". This is what Stefanos Chios wrote, in huge title-letters, in the web site of "Makeleio" newspaper, on the 10th of December 2017, about Minos Moissis.

Minos Moissis, the previous President of the Jewish Community of Athens took legal actions and sued the newspaper, its publisher and its reporter Stefanos Chios. The claim was put on trial on the 28th of March 2019 and on the 8th of October 2020 the sentence of the civil proceeding was published. The penal proceeding has not been heard yet before the judge.

The Court of Justice of First Instance by its sentence no. 949/2020 accepted the claim and by a very clear legal statement obviously considered that the accused parts tort against Minos Moissis, insulted him and thus offended illegally his personality, mentioning unnecessarily and οn purpose his Jewish origin, in order to accentuate their offense.
