PRESS RELEASE

ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE CENTRAL BOARD OF JEWISH COMMUNITIES IN GREECE FOR THE TERROR ATTACK IN JERUSALEM Print E-mail
Tuesday, 23 November 2021 08:51
The Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece unequivocally condemns the new terror attack in Jerusalem’s Old City which caused the death of two Israelis and the injury of other two. Every terror attack against innocent citizens of Israel moves away the hope of peace and threatens every attempt of harmonious co-existance between Israelis and Palestinians in the region.

We express our sorrow and we convey our condolences to the families of the victims and the people of Israel.

NEW VANDAL ATTACK AGAINST TOMB AT THE JEWISH CEMETERY OF IOANNINA Print E-mail
Friday, 10 September 2021 11:32

Antisemitism targets even the dead. For the second time in less than a month a tomb was found vandalized at the Jewish cemetery of Ioannina. The  vandals chose the period of the High Holidays of the Jewish faith for the manifestation of their antisemitic hatred with the hideous act of removing the tombstone of a grave. Shame!

The State as well as the local authorities need to take all necessary measures for the safety of the Jewish Community and its sacred sites all over Greece, and particularly in Ioannina, where the Jewish cemetery has been the target of hatred attacks repeatedly in the past. Let the dead rest in peace!

KIS ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE VANDALISM OF THE IOANNINA JEWISH CEMETERY Print E-mail
Friday, 06 August 2021 12:46
The Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece expresses the outrage and the resentment of the Greek Jews over the desecration of a tomb in the Jewish Cemetery of Ioannina. The tomb was found vandalized on August 5, 2021, with its upper tombstone removed and marble fragments scattered around it.

We strongly condemn this shameful act  of sacrilege which indicates that the hatred of the perpetrators leads to villainous manifestations of violence and fanaticism.

The Jewish cemetery of Ioannina has become the target of antisemitic hatred and has been repeatedly vandalized in the past.

We call upon the competent authorities to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice. The Jewish cemetery of Ioannina is not only the resting place of the Jews of the city, it is a place of memory and cultural heritage for the city of Ioannina as a whole.

KIS SOLIDARITY TOWARDS THE ISRAELI PEOPLE FOR THE MISSILE ATTACKS LAUNCHED BY HAMAS Print E-mail
Wednesday, 12 May 2021 10:32
The Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece expresses its solidarity towards the people of Israel, under attack for the past 48 hours, by rocket bombardments launched by Hamas and the Islamic Jihad.

The choice of the terrorist organizations to escalate violence on Jerusalem Day, through attacks against civilian population in Israel, is characteristic of the practices they use in order to reach their target, which is nothing less than the annihilation of the Jewish state from the world map.

The State of Israel, as any other country in the world in case of relevant attacks against its population, has the undisputed and legal right to defend its boarders and the safety of its citizens against sworn enemies that do not recognize even its right to exist.

We stand side by side with the people of Israel attacked yet one more time by the forces of terror and intolerance, and we convey the condolences of the Greek Jewry to the families of the victims along with our wishes for the speedy recovery of the wounded.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE JEWISH COMMUNITY OF THESSALONIKI FOR THE VANDALISM OF THE MURALART ON HOLOCAUST Print E-mail
Thursday, 18 March 2021 13:55
THESSALONIKI, March 18, 2021.- The Jewish Community of Thessaloniki unequivocally condemns the vandalism of the recently created mural on Michael Kalou Street about the Jews of Thessaloniki and their extermination in the Nazi death camps. Τhe mural was created by the "Vardaris Neighborhood Team" of the Self-Help Promotion Program of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki under the direction of UrbanAct.

It is unfortunate that a few days after its completion strangers, who seem to be bothered by the willingness of the city to remember even the darkest pages of its history, vandalized a work that received flattering comments both for its aesthetics and for the powerful message that it conveys on the need to preserve the memory and constantly remind the events of the Holocaust.

Racism and anti-Semitism remain a serious problem and an open wound for our society. It is obvious that we must always remain vigilant in order to fight -through the use of historical facts and education- any attempt to revive the ideologies that gave birth to the Holocaust, the nadir of humanity.
