ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE CENTRAL BOARD OF JEWISH COMMUNITIES IN GREECE REGARDING THE TRIAL OF DR. SABETHAI MATSAS Print E-mail
Friday, 30 August 2013 08:47
On September 3, 2013, exactly after 170 years from the day that the Greek people revolted for obtaining the Democratic Constitution of Greece, will be held in Athens at the 1st Single-Member Magistrate’s Court of Athens, the trial of a Greek citizen of Jewish religion, because he expressed openly his opinion against all those who threaten Democracy with Neonazi behaviors and ideology.
At a period when followers of Nazism, racism and anti-Semitism act and extend almost undisturbed their influence in Greece, it is an affront to Democracy itself to sue a descendant of Holocaust victims because he complained and protested against the violence of Hitler’s admirers.
The September 3, 2013 coincides with the eve of the Jewish New Year which symbolizes the first day of the holy days for the Jews around the world, who pray for health, peace and prosperity and for the victory of love and solidarity against violence and hatred. Based on these universal values we express our solidarity to our fellow Dr. Sabethai Matsas.
