Social services for Nazi victims have been supported by a grant from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.
Funds have been provided by the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany for the Emergency Assistance Program for Nazi Victims at the direction of the United States District Court supervising the lawsuit In RE: Holocaust Victim Assets Litigation (Swiss Banks).

OFFICIAL VISIT OF THE ISRAELI PRESIDENT HERZOG IN ATHENS. MEETINGS WITH GREEK POLITICAL LEADERS AND THE GREEK JEWISH LEADERSHIP Print E-mail

The leadership of the Greek Jewish Community and representatives of the Greek Jewish Youth had the opportunity to meet the President of the State of Israel Isaac Herzog at a special event held on the side of his official visit to Greece, on February 24, 2022.

The Israeli President, accompanied by the Israeli ambassador to Greece Mr. Yossi Amrani, was welcomed by KIS President David Saltiel, who briefed him on the key issues and the ongoing projects of the Greek Jewish Community. The Israeli President Herzog in his address referred to the thriving relations between Greece and Israel and the important role of the Jews of Greece as a determining link of this relation. There followed an open discussion focused on international, Israeli and Greek Jewish issues.

Special mention was made to the following topics: The Holocaust Museum of Greece in Thessaloniki, antisemitism, education and the projects for the Jewish youth that will form the future Jewish leadership, energy and high tech, the need to consolidate peaceful coexistence amongst Christians, Jews and Muslims in the Mediterranean and the peoples of the region. The Russian invasion in Ukraine and its impact on the international political arena, with regard to Israel as well as the refugees fleeing the country, were also discussed during the meeting.

Isaac Herzog’s one-day official visit to Greece -following the invitation of Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou- started in the morning of February 24, with the laying of a wreath at the Monument of the Unknown Soldier and continued with a meeting with President Sakellaropoulou at the presidential mansion.  Afterwards, the Israeli President had a private meeting with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the Maximos Mansion.

An official lunch in his honour was hosted at the presidential mansion by President Sakellaropoulou. In the afternoon, Athens Mayor Kostas Bakoyannis presented the Israeli President with the golden medal of valor of the city of Athens  during a special ceremony at the Athens City Hall. Isaac Herzog also had official meetings with the Speaker of the Greek Parliament Konstantinos Tasoulas, who presented him with the medal of the Greek Parliament, as well as with the leader of the main opposition and former PM, Alexis Tsipras.
