PRESS RELEASE

KISE ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE RECOGNITION OF JERUSALEM AS ISRAEL'S CAPITAL FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE USA Print E-mail
Friday, 05 January 2018 14:24

The Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece acknowledges the importance of President Trump’s announcement that reflects in the most official way the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel by the United States.

The State of Israel, as any sovereign state, is legitimized to define its own capital. The State of Israel maintains its primary governmental and State’s authorities in Jerusalem, and all foreign leaders visiting Israel are hosted in Jerusalem as well.

The holy sites of all three of the world's monotheistic faiths are situated in Jerusalem. For decades, the State of Israel guarantees free access and prayer for Jews, Christians and Muslims, to the holy places which are administrated by Jewish, Islamic and Christian authorities respectively.

The Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece wishes that the voices of prudence and logic will prevail on all sides in order to maintain the harmonious living together of the inhabitants of Jerusalem and in order to reach soon the goal of a peace treaty that will ensure the peaceful and safe coexistence of Israelis and Palestinians, with respect for the rights of both sides.

THE CENTRAL BOARD OF JEWISH COMMUNITIES IN GREECE CONDEMNS THE VIOLENT ANTI-SEMITIC ATTACKS IN SWEDEN Print E-mail
Friday, 05 January 2018 14:23

The Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece expresses the abhorrence of the Greek Jewry for the recent attacks in Sweden against the Jewish Synagogue in Gothenburg and against the Jewish cemetery in Malmo.

Any attack against religious sites - wherever it may occur - is unacceptable and must be condemned by the world community. Condemning anti-Semitism goes with taking all the necessary measures that every well-governed country has to take in order to ensure the secure living of its citizens.

The Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece expresses its solidarity with the Jewish Community of Sweden and stresses that Europe's Jews cannot be the target of any feasibility from wherever it may come.

The Authorities will need to be vigilant and defend the well-being of all citizens, regardless of their religion, against the followers of fanaticism and intolerance that seek to impose obscurantism in Europe.

KIS ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE RETHORIC ATTACK AGAINST THE PRESIDENT OF THE JEWISH COMMUNITY OF ATHENS Print E-mail
Wednesday, 27 December 2017 14:13
The Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece condemns unequivocally the malicious and vulgar insults, containing fierce racist and anti-Semitic references, launched against the President of the Athens Jewish Community Mr. Minos Moissis by the web edition of the newspaper MAKELEIO.

The headline of the article reads: “Cruel Jew at the head of a company of “crows” that has been assigned to liquidate the “red loans” (past due debt) of poor Greeks. President of the Jewish Community, he pretends friendly and takes (our money) from the back door”.

The article targets and treats with contempt Mr. Moissis -a renowned and experienced professional and a top executive manager in the banking and insurance industry for 30 years- because only of his Jewish identity and his position as the President of the Jewish Community of Athens. Apart from the insulting references, the racist and malicious intent against Mr. Moissis, is indicated by the fact that he is referred to as the “cruel Jew” who has allegedly undertaken the task of “clearing out the loans of the poor Greeks”. Thus, in an unacceptable manner, the hideous and racist stereotype of the evil hard Jewish is reproduced.

Mr. Moissis will pursue the case to the Greek Justice for restoring his honor and reputation.
Nevertheless, in a period that we witness an outburst of anti-Semitic violence in Europe, this unjust, unprovoked and totally unfounded attack against a leading figure of the Greek Jewry, not only endangers his own safety but the right to live safely of all Greek Jews alike.

We are certain that the competent Greek Authorities will take all necessary measures against those who endorse hate speech as the means of promotion of their anti-Semitic campaign.

ANNOUNCEMENT ON THE ATTACK AGAINST THE ISRAELI EMBASSY IN ATHENS BY RUBICON ANARCHIST GROUP Print E-mail
Wednesday, 27 December 2017 14:11
The Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece (KIS) expresses the repugnance of the Greek Jewry and condemns the attack with bottles of red paint against the building of the Embassy of Israel in Athens, launched by a group of anarchists called Rubicon, in the morning of December 25, 2017.

The fair solution of the Palestinian issue may be achieved only through negotiations between the Israelis and the Palestinians and not through violent attacks against the Israeli Embassy in Greece or against Jewish targets in Europe. Once more KIS wishes for logic and prudence to prevail over any form of fanaticism that perpetuates hatred and alienates hopes for peace and understanding in the region.

KIS ANNOUNCEMENT FOR FAR RIGHT’S PARTY ENTRY IN THE BUDENSTAG Print E-mail
Tuesday, 26 September 2017 12:25

The Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece congratulates Angela Merkel on securing her fourth consecutive term in the German Chancellery.

However, the overall results of the German federal elections of September 2017, with the strong presence of the extreme, xenophobic and anti-European party “Alternative for Germany” (AfD) in the country's federal Parliament, raise concern both for Germany itself and for all of Europe.

The Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece shares the concern of the entire democratic world about the fact that a far-right xenophobic party enters the Bundestag for the first time since 1945. We ask from the German Government which will be formed soon to take into very serious consideration the results of these elections and search the cause of the rise of vote in favor of this particular xenophobic party.

At the same time, we express our conviction that the other parties in the Bundestag will preserve the democratic principles of Germany.
