PRIME MINISTER'S STATEMENT on the GREEK REPRESENTATION to the CoE Print E-mail
Friday, 21 December 2012 07:50
Meeting with EGAM

The Press release issued by EGAM:

EGAM congratulates itself of the decision announced by Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras during his meeting with Benjamin Abtan, the President of EGAM, today in Athens : New Democracy is in favor of a new composition of the Greek parliamentary delegation to the Council of Europe without the neo-Nazis of Golden Dawn.

This position is the same as the one previously announced by the parties Pasok, Democratic Left and Syriza, and it means implies the exclusion of the neo-Nazis from the Council of Europe.

For EGAM, it is a huge democratic victory, which brings a necessary and salutary political clarification, which be heard in Greece and in the rest of Europe.

Greece is now offering an example to the whole Europe of a country faced with the most violent social situation but whose leaders have decided to put the defense of democracy as a top priority.

Last, this decision allows to break the dynamic of the neo-Nazi party “Golden Dawn” in Greece and at the European level, and it reinforces the European antiracist movement which expressed itself with strength in the streets of Athens this Saturday, December 15th, gathering more than 10,000 people for a great antiracist march against neo-Nazism.

GREEK JEWISH PROTEST LETTER FOR READING OF EXCERPTS FROM "THE PROTOCOLS" IN THE PARLIAMENT Print E-mail
Tuesday, 30 October 2012 13:00
Following the reading by Member of Parliament Ilias Kasidiaris of the Chryssi Avgi (Golden Dawn) Party of an extract from the forgery ‘The Protocols of the Elders of Sion’ during a session of parliament, on October 23, 2012, in the House of Parliament, the Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece sent a letter of protest to the President of the Greek Parliament, Mr Evangelos Maimarakis.

In this letter, the Central Board of Jewish Communities stresses that “the false 'Protocols of the Elders of Sion' are the most typical example of anti-Semitic propaganda in the world and were used by Hitler as a pretext for nazi persecutions.
It is worth to remind that the 'Protocols' have not only been denounced by international courts, but also by international bibliographers and pre-eminent historians as falsifications produced by the Okhrana, the Tsar’s own guard, to be used as a pretext for persecuting Jews.

The sound of extracts from the forgery of the “Protocols” being read aloud from the seats of the Greek House of Parliament has provoked great concern to the Greek Jewry. We believe that events such as this add to the proliferation of anti-Semitic stereotypes.
On the occasion we once again ask the sound representatives of the state and society to marginalize the ideologies, methodologies and propaganda of those who long for the return of Nazism".
