On Friday August 2, 2013, the President and Secretary General of the Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece (KIS) Messrs. Benjamin Albalas and Victor Isaac Eliezer, as well as the President of the Jewish Community of Thessaloniki Mr. David Saltiel met with the Greek P.M. Mr. Antonis Samaras, at the P.M.’s office at Maximos Mansion, in Athens.

KIS President Benjamin Albalas thanked the P.M. for the cordial welcome and reminded him of his historic visit to the Synagogue of Thessaloniki, where the P.M. had delivered a strong speech against racism and anti-Semitism.

Discussion between P.M. Samaras and Greek Jewish leadership focused on the rise of anti-Semitic phenomena in Greece, the need to prevent such phenomena as well as the need to fortify principles of Freedom and Democracy. Discussion also included the project of the Permanent exhibition on Greek Jewish Holocaust which is to be established in one of the barracks in Auschwitz.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Greek Jewish leaders pointed out that on the occasion of the upcoming term of Greek E.U. Presidency the Greek Jewry will support the Government’s initiatives aiming at combating racism and anti-Semitism in Europe.
