Following invitation by the Main Opposition party of SYRIZA, Greek Jewish leaders and SYRIZA MPs met at the Party’s office in the Greek Parliament on July 31, 2013. The Press Release issued by SYRIZA, inter alia, points out the following:
“Within the framework of contacts with the religious communities of the country, undertaken by the SYRIZA Committee on Religions, a meeting with the Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece took place at the Party’s office in the Parliament.
On behalf of SYRIZA the meeting was attended by Members of Parliament Messrs Yiannis Amanatidis, in charge of the parliamentary group on Religions, Tasos Kourakis in charge of the Committee for the Control of Governmental Work on Education, Religions, Culture and Sports, and Ms Rena Dourou, of the same Committee on Foreign Affairs and the party’s coordinator on Religious Affairs Mr. Makis Lykopoulos.
The Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece was represented by the President Mr. Benjamin Albalas and the Secretary General Mr. Victor Isaac Eliezer.
During the meeting there was a briefing on the problems that the Jewish Community of Greece faces, and especially on the rise of anti-Semitic phenomena mainly manifested and incited by Golden Dawn and circles affiliated to it.

SYRIZA representatives expressed the party’s firm position against racism and anti-Semitism and assured that they will undertake all necessary initiatives for the preservation of historic memory as well as for the prevention of the phenomena of racism.
Communication between both sides will continue in order to exchange information on issues of common interest”.
