ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE VANDALISM OF THE PLAQUE COMMEMORATING HOLOCAUST CHILDREN AT A PLAY YARD IN ATHENS Print

The Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece and the Greek Jewry at large join the Athens Jewish Community in strongly condemning the desecration of the plaque erected in remembrance of and tribute to the 13.000 Greek children who were deported and exterminated in the Nazi concentration camps for the only reason that they were born Jewish.
In 1981 Greek Jewish mothers decided to honour their memory by sponsoring the construction of a play yard, at Pafou Square, in the center of Athens. A commemorative plaque was placed in this play yard to let know the contemporary children of the crime committed against the innocent souls of those Jewish children.
Tolerance of such hideous acts can only be interpreted as complicity and for this reason the Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece urges all competent authorities and the citizens of Athens to protect the memory of the Holocaust in Greece against all those aiming at its profanation and ultimately at the prevalence of barbarity over the values of humanism.
