GREEK JEWISH LEADERSHIP MET WITH EHUD BARAK Print

Israeli Minister of Defence, Ehud Barak, was in Athens on an official visit on 10th and 11th January 2012, accompanied by his wife, Nili Barak-Priel and ministry officials. The Israeli minister had meetings with the President of the Hellenic Republic Karolos Papoulias, Prime Minister Lucas Papademos, Foreign Minister Stavros Dimas and his counterpart Minister of National Defence, Dimitris Avramopoulos. The main topic under discussion was the increased level of military co-operation in defence and security.
During their stay in Athens, the Israeli Minister and his wife, Mrs Barak-Priel, met the leaders of Greek Jewry at a working lunch held by the Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece and the Jewish Community of Athens on 11.1.2012. Mr Barak expressed a keen interest in the history of Greek Jews as well as in the work of the Central Board and that of the Communities. Mrs Nili Barak-Priel, for her part, gave a glowing and moving report of her visit to the Jewish Primary School. In their addresses to those present, the president of the Central Board of Jewish Communities, Mr David Saltiel, and his Excellency Mr Arye Mekel, the Israeli Ambassador, both spoke about the importance of relations between Greece and Israel.
